On a daily basis, IT organizations are being asked to support increasingly complex applications, more users, different network topologies, and compliance initiatives – all undertaken with fewer resources. Yet when it comes to network performance management, IT may have more resources than they think. Enterprises and government agencies have invested heavily in Cisco infrastructure and VoIP products, each of which supplies different performance management intelligence.

Challenges of Multiple Data Sources: Costs and Correlation 
In many networks with Cisco networking infrastructure devices, many critical traffic flow statistics already exist– those that count packets and errors like standard SNMP MIBs, those that track conversations, such as NetFlow, and those that provide application layer visibility, like NAMs. All the statistics from these data sources and VoIP traffic reveal important information regarding the performance of the enterprise network, and/or the applications and conversations flowing through it.

However, finding enterprise-wide support for collecting, aggregating and displaying that information from all these data sources has been elusive. Traditionally, performance management tools have only supported a single data source and a single function (i.e., troubleshooting or capacity planning). This forced IT organizations who wanted value out of their networks to purchase multiple products, which required multiple servers, product training courses, maintenance contracts, and vendors to manage. On top of these costs, is the tedium and inaccuracy of having to manually correlate information from across products in order to gain intelligence on the total network.
